Court calls for reelection for Maroua I mayor

An administrative court in Maroua has ruled for the cancellation of the election of the mayor of Maroua 1.

In a court verdict handed down Wednesday March 18th, the court found the elected mayor Amadou Amino guilty of corruption during the election and violation of instructions in a circular from the central committee of the Cameroon People Democratic Movement (CPDM).

The victory of the mayor was contested by his comrade of the CPDM party Yousouf Isa Balarabe.

According to a local news site Caminfo.net, Yousouf Isa Balarabe was designated by the central committee of the CPDM party to be the mayor of Maroua 1 council but Amadou Amidou challenged the decision tabling his candidature.

In the election that took place on the 21st of February 2020, the designated candidate of the central committee of the CPDM lost in favour of Amadou Amidou.

According to the electoral code, reelection of the mayor of Maroua 1 will take place not more than 60 days from March 18th.
