Hon. Cavaye Yegeui Djibril defies PM Dion Ngute’s orders, convenes parliamentary session

The speaker of the national assembly has convened a plenary session for Friday 20th March 2020. The session is to bring together 167 parliamentarians.

This contradicts a coronavirus preventive measure prohibiting the gathering of more than 50 people.

The instruction was given by the prime minister Joseph Dion Ngute. In a tweet, President Paul Biya restated the need to the respect the order to enable Cameroonians stay safe from the virus.

By violating the order and convening a plenary session, critics think Hon. Cavaye Djibril dose not attach any importance to the health and security of his colleagues and the entire population.

Earlier, the parliamentarian from Mayo Sava refused to quarantine himself upon return from France, a coronavirus infected country.

Some parliamentarians of the opposition are contemplating boycotting the session for health reasons.
