COVID-19: Government makes tax concessions, uplifts restrictions on bars, nightclubs and restaurants

Bars, night clubs and restaurants in Cameroon will once again be able to function past 6PM despite the ongoing fight against COVID-19.

The measure was announced by PM Dion Ngute today at a press conference in Yaounde. He also announced tax exemptions as a way to encourage businesses hit by the adverse effects of the health pandemic.

Despite the concessions, the PM noted that the decision to close all borders is maintained. Everyone he added is still compelled to make use of face masks in public places.

The latest move by the government comes six weeks after a first set of measures were announced to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. Though the number of positive cases keeps increasing, government has revealed that it plans to reopen Universities and probably other schools come June 1st.

In the days ahead, the Cameroon government will also be repatriating some Cameroonians stuck abroad due to the closure of borders.

Close to a thousand cases have been treated in the country with dozens of deaths recorded.
