CPDM Leaders Condemn Divisive Politics, Stand Firm Behind President Biya

The Presidents of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) Sections in Dja and Lobo have strongly denounced what they characterise as “baseless and destructive” rhetoric aimed at undermining the progress achieved under President Paul Biya. Their remarks come in response to a tragic road accident on October 9, 2024, along the Yaoundé-Sangmélima highway. It resulted in multiple fatalities.

A Call for Unity

“We will not stand by and watch as individuals attempt to sow discord and political chaos,” the CPDM leaders stated. “This is a time for unity, not for cheap political shots aimed at dividing our people and tarnishing the reputation of government officials who serve with integrity.”

In a communiqué signed by notable CPDM figures, including Presidents of various sections in Dja and Lobo, the leaders condemned recent efforts to politicize the tragic accident. They commended the swift actions of senior government officials, such as Minister Paul Atanga Nji and Finance Minister Louis Paul Motaze, who promptly visited the site to support grieving families.

“We express our deepest condolences to the families affected by this tragedy,” the communiqué reads. “But we are equally appalled by the way some political figures have exploited this event to advance their own selfish agendas. This is not the time to fuel division but to stand together as one nation.”

Defending Ministerial Integrity

The CPDM leaders also pushed back against claims that government ministers from the Dja and Lobo regions prioritise ethnic or regional interests over national development. “These are baseless allegations,” they stated. “Ministers from this region have always served with loyalty and dedication to the Republic, not to any specific community. Their record speaks for itself.

The statement further criticised those spreading such divisive theories, labelling their actions as “fantastical and incoherent.” The CPDM Presidents reaffirmed their unwavering support for President Biya’s policies promoting unity and national development. “These so-called political analysts are out of touch with the realities on the ground,” they asserted. “Their aim is to destabilize the government, but they will not succeed.”

In a pointed rebuke, the communiqué drew parallels between current political attacks and a past era characterized by “chaos and division.” It underscored that the region will not regress into such dark times. “We reject any attempt to resurrect old divisions. The people of Dja and Lobo stand firmly with President Paul Biya and his government,” they declared.

Commitment to Progress

The CPDM leaders emphasized their commitment to ensuring that the progress made under President Biya continues. “We remain mobilized and fully dedicated to the cause of national unity,” they stated, reaffirming their loyalty to both the president and his policies. “The socio-economic development of our region and the entire nation will not be derailed by divisive political games.”

Their message was clear: “We will not allow ourselves to be distracted by the noise of a few. Our focus remains on supporting the CPDM and our champion, His Excellency President Paul Biya, as we head toward future electoral victories.”
