Cristiano Ronaldo sets new Guinness World Record

Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Guinness World Records (GWR) award for the first male player ever to win 200 international caps.

Cristiano Ronaldo has set a new Guinness World Record for most capped men’s senior player, reaching 200 appearances for Portugal in their Euro 2024 qualifier against Iceland on Tuesday, June 20th, 2023.

The 38-year-old was presented with a certificate by Guinness World Records before the match, and he marked the occasion by scoring the winning goal in the 89th minute to give Portugal a 1-0 victory.

Ronaldo is now the most capped player in international football, surpassing the previous record of 196 held by Kuwait’s Bader Al-Mutawa.

The Portugal captain is also the all-time leading scorer in men’s international football, with 122 goals to his name.

Ronaldo’s record-breaking achievement is the latest in a long line of milestones for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

He is widely considered to be one of the greatest footballers of all time, and his longevity and consistency at the highest level are simply astonishing.

Ronaldo’s record-breaking achievement is a testament to his incredible talent and dedication. He is an inspiration to millions of people around the world, and he will continue to be a force to be reckoned with for many years to come.

According to GWR “the Guinness World Records Hall of Fame 2023 after smashing plenty of records both on and off the pitch, forever shaping the world of football.”

In 2022, following his 196th match for Portugal, Ronaldo equalled the record for the most international football caps by an individual (male), a title which he shared with Bader Al-Mutawa of Kuwait.

One year later, in March 2023, the Portuguese International made history by breaking his own record and surpassing Al-Mutawa, with a total of 198 caps giving him the most international caps ever.

The GWR has only recently come into the consciousness of many, especially Africans after Nigerian Chef Hilda Baci broke the record for the longest cooking marathon.
