Media reports have confirmed that about 2000 mobile phones have been seized from smugglers at the Cameroon – Nigeria maritime border in Idenau, Southwest region.
The smuggled goods were seized during an operation which was carried out by the Commercial Customs Brigade in Idenau on May 11, 2021.
The consignment of smuggled cargo lacked the appropriate customs clearance documents as they bypassed authorities right from Nigeria.
The smugglers of the goods have been placed under police custody at Idenau, while further investigations are going on in an effort to dismantle the bigger cartel of smugglers.
It is not the first time that a clique of cellphone smugglers have been apprehended at the Cameroon – Nigerian border, with a dozen others apprehended several times at the Mudeka checkpoint and the Douala International Seaport.
