The parade of Customs officers of the North West sector is said to have stolen the show and earned applauds from the several dignitaries at the Bamenda Commercial Avenue during the golden jubilee celebration of the National Day.
The passage of the customs department, in military steps before the dignitaries at the main celebration ground could not go unnoticed.
This was much to the satisfaction of the North West Customs sector boss, Jerome Epie who saluted courage and patriotism of his troops.
According to the North West Customs Chief of Sector, the passage of his troops was remarkable.
“Sitting at the tribune and watching my troop march pass in front of the representative of the Head of State and the caucus of the region makes me a proud Chief of Sector. I applaud the courage and sense of patriotism demonstrated by the officers of the North West Customs Sector in spite of the prevailing situation,” he said with a beaming smile.
The cheerful Chief of Sector added: “They are proud of their country and her institutions. Only a united, devoted and patriotic personnel would want to sacrifice everything to attain this milestone”.
On behalf of the Fongod Edwin-led Customs administration, the chief of sector extended appreciated to the Governor for his regular encouragement to the customs troops before and during 20th May festivities.
The activities marking the 50th anniversary celebration of the Unitary State was presided over in the trouble-hit North West region by , Governor Lele L’Afrique.
Other personalities present at the ceremonial ground included the Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam, Simon Emile Mooh; the Archbishop of Bamenda, His Grace Andrew Nkea; and the Vice-Chancellor of University of Bamenda, Prof Therese Akenji.
Celebrative activities marking this year’s 20th May was placed under the theme, “Defence and Security Forces at the service of the people, for the preservation of social peace and national cohesion, a guarantee for an emerging Cameroon”.
