CVF League Match Day 7: Birmingham Veterans Hold All Saints to a Stalemate

Birmingham Veterans FC and All Saints Veterans FC played out a goalless draw on Match Day 7 of the Cameroon Veterans Football League (CVF) at the University of Wolverhampton’s Walsall campus. In what was expected to be a repeat of All Saints’ dominant 5–1 win in their last meeting, this return fixture delivered a different narrative—one of tactical discipline and defensive resilience.

A Defensive Battle

From the start, All Saints brought their familiar attacking energy. Edwin “Bakayoko” Abang, the league’s top scorer, was once again in the starting lineup, flanked by the ever-creative Portman Harris and forward Fred Nchang. However, Birmingham Veterans showed early signs of improvement, deploying a compact defensive unit and staying organised.

Birmingham’s midfield, led by number 6, Yoan, was particularly effective in breaking up play and disrupting the flow of All Saints’ passing game. Yoan’s positioning and stamina kept the more dangerous moments of the game under control.

Despite All Saints dominating possession in the first half, they struggled to convert their chances. Birmingham’s back line stood firm, and goalkeeper performances from both sides ensured the first half ended without goals.

Missed Opportunities and Midfield Duels

The second half saw both teams attempt to up the tempo, but defensive lines on both sides held strong. All Saints came closest in the 68th minute when Bakayoko forced a fingertip save from Birmingham’s keeper. In reply, Birmingham threatened on the counter through Fritz and Makebe, but final touches let them down.

The match remained tense, with few clear-cut opportunities. It was a game decided more by structure and strategy than flair or finishing. The final whistle confirmed a 0–0 draw.

Standings Impact

With this result, All Saints drop points for the first time this season. They remain top of the table, but Camder FC’s emphatic 7–2 victory earlier in the day brings the two teams level in both points and momentum. Birmingham Veterans, on the other hand, showed significant improvement, earning a valuable point after previously being outclassed by the same opponent.

Yoan’s performance in midfield was a standout. He controlled the pace, broke up attacks, and served as the foundation for Birmingham’s improved defensive display. His work rate and positional awareness were key to containing All Saints’ dynamic trio.

The draw sets up a competitive run-in for the remainder of the CVF League season, with the top spots now being hotly contested. All eyes now turn to Match Day 8.
