Issa Tchiroma Bakary Remains Silent on Resignation Reports

Reports of a resignation from Issa Tchiroma Bakary, Cameroon’s Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, have gained traction across social media and political circles. While multiple sources suggest that he has submitted his resignation to the President of the Republic, Tchiroma himself has neither confirmed nor denied the reports.

Despite his silence on the matter, he did provide a carefully worded response when contacted by Afrik Inform:

“When the time comes, if that is the case, the most authoritative voice of the FSNC will speak. My spokesperson will, in the meantime, invite the press for a briefing. Please believe me when I say I will make no comment at this time.”

This restrained statement stands in stark contrast to Tchiroma’s usual communicative style and has led to increased speculation about his political future.

A Calculated Political Silence

At 74 years old, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, often referred to as “the orator of the north,” appears to be deliberately controlling the narrative. Known for his outspoken media presence and strong defence of government positions, his current silence marks a significant deviation from his norm.

This measured communication could indicate a strategic repositioning rather than a withdrawal. It raises key questions: Is this the end of a long political journey? Or is it a tactical move within a broader political strategy?

A Political Career Spanning Decades

Tchiroma is not a typical political figure. Trained as a journalist, he is a former political prisoner who later served as government spokesperson and held several ministerial positions under different administrations. His political career has been defined by loyalty to President Paul Biya and a consistent presence in national media.

As president of the Front for the National Salvation of Cameroon (FSNC), Tchiroma has built a party identity closely tied to his own. This tight personal branding makes the current situation all the more significant. Any change in his status could mark a critical turning point for the FSNC.

What’s Next for the FSNC?

Tchiroma’s announcement that his spokesperson will address the press suggests that an official statement is forthcoming. Until then, uncertainty persists. Analysts are now questioning whether the FSNC is preparing for a leadership transition or a generational shift.

The party, established and shaped by Tchiroma, may need to adapt to a future without its founding figure at the helm. Whether this will lead to internal restructuring or a continuity plan remains to be seen.

Silence as a Political Tool

Tchiroma’s current media silence is not necessarily a sign of retreat. Instead, it may serve to reinforce his enigmatic image and political relevance. In Cameroon’s high-stakes political landscape, even silence can carry weight.

It remains unclear whether this is a calculated pause or the beginning of a political exit. For now, Issa Tchiroma Bakary remains central to the conversation—an unpredictable figure whose next move is awaited by political observers and citizens alike.
