Reports say a 0.2% tax imposed on mobile money transactions in Cameroon has been suspended. This follows public outcry over the bill which went operational on January 1. Many termed it unfair and exploitative.

Two alleged thieves have died in Bonaberi, Douala in the Littoral Region after being administered mob justice. The pair was reportedly caught red-handed in the act of robbery and burnt alive by an angry mob.

Former detainee Mbombog Mbog Matip Emmanuel has been released from jail after almost 16 months. The handicapped man was arrested in 2020 and sent to the Yaoundé Kondengui maximum prison after being accused for propagation of false information.

Towns hosting AFCON games, residents say, have been heavily militarised. This follows a protest announcement by the Social Democratic Front party set for the eve of the competition. Among the party’s demands, is the release of political prisoners.

Sale of tickets for the African Cup of Nations starts tomorrow. Officials have made available a list of sales points nationwide, as well as certified vaccination centers. This follows orders that only vaccinated persons would be permitted to enter stadiums and watch the games.


Samuel Eto’o Fils has been honoured by his former Spanish club, Real Mallorca. A mural of the FECAFOOT president was unveiled by him in Mallorca during a game between his former clubs FC Barcelona and Malloca. Eto’o said it was an honour to have represented both clubs.
