The Senior Divisional Officer for Menchum, Abdoullahi Aliou has threatened to sanction teachers that fail to show up at their assigned duty posts. The administrator has asked his subordinates, D.Os to supervise the implementation of the decision. Some parts of Menchum like other divisions in the Anglophone regions continue to witness chaos caused by the ongoing battle between government and separatist fighters.

Fok Kevin Yakum, President of the North West House of Chiefs has spent 43 days in separatist fighters’ captivity already. He was abducted by the fighters who till date continue to hold him. Many have expressed indignation at the fact that till date, no official statement has been made about the abduction of the traditional authority by government or any state institutions.

Cesar Ngomo Honoré, supporter of the ruling Cameroon Peoples Democratic Party has been issued a summons to appear before the police on January 24. This comes after he accused the Ayah Foundation of transporting arms for separatist fighters in the Anglophone regions. The accusation, the Ayah Foundation says, is unfounded, and tarnishes their image.

Work in public offices across the country closed early today, same as public schools. This was following a decision by government limiting work and school hours to boost stadium numbers. Many continue to criticise the move, citing the rigorous Covid-19 protocol are the major reason for poor stadium numbers witnessed.

Cameroon was the first side to sail through to the round of 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations. The lions today drew a 1 – 1 tie with Cape Verde to top the group with 7 points. Ethiopia on its part has been eliminated, while Burkina Faso and Cape Verde both battle to sail through on performance basis.

Aboubakar Vincent continues to top the chart as the AFCON highest goal scorer. He added another goal against Cape Verde today, raising his tally to 5. He has now equalled Samuel Eto’o’s record of scoring in three consecutive AFCON games.
