Some victims of recent floods in Longone-et-Chari Division, in the Far North region, have received food items from the Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development, George Elanga Obama.

The food distribution is part of a presidential humanitarian package for victims of recent floods that hit the region.

This also aims to provide relief to Muslims and Christians observing the one-month Ramadan and Lent fasts, respectively.

This moment shows solidarity. The minister explained that President Paul Biya is finding another way to connect with the population of the Far North, a region affected by climate disasters and the ongoing Boko Haram conflict.

“A donation of essential foodstuffs was given to the populations to enable them to live this sacred period with dignity and serenity, despite the difficulties they are going through,” the Minister said.

“The 10 Mayors of the Division welcomed this act of presidential generosity, expressed their deep gratitude, and reiterated their commitment and loyalty to President Paul Biya and his vision of national solidarity,” he added.

Biya is Aware

According to Decentralisation Minister Elanga Obam, President Paul Biya is fully aware of the needs of the population and will take, beyond this emergency assistance, all necessary measures to improve their living environment.

The food items comprised sugar, flour, and savon, among others.

Muslims and Christians worldwide recently embarked on fasting during Ramadan and Lent, respectively.

For the Muslims, fasting is the fourth pillar of Islam, compulsory for all healthy and adult Muslims.

During this period, they must abstain from food and sexual activities between dawn and dusk.

So in the Longone-et-Chari, devastating floods have seen enormous property damage, and that is why President Biya stepped in to rescue the situation.
