Desperation in Kumbo hospital as road blockade by separatist fighters cuts off supplies

The past days have been hard for patients and staff of the Banso Baptist Hospital in Kumbo, as roads leading out of the town are blocked.

Separatist fighters have had more skirmishes with the forces of law and order leaving roads sealed.

In Ndop, chief town of the Ngoketunjia Division, separatist fighters have prolonged a weeklong ghost town they imposed. Authorities they say must open all shops they sealed before things return to normal.

The town’s Mayor and other administrative officials remain unbending. They say shops sealed were those belonging to sympathisers of separatist fighters.

While the impasse continues, patients in the Banso Baptist Hospital are paying the price as medical supplies dry up due to road blockade in Ngoketunjia.

Reports say the situation is worse for patients under with more complicated cases as medical supplies have been stuck in Bamenda for a week due to the blockade.

According to the Cameroon News Agency (CNA) a worker at the hospital says the truck left Douala to deliver drugs but has been blocked in Bamenda for more than a week.

With no solution in sight yet, there are fears more lives will be lost in the close to four-ywar long war.

Over three thousand lives have been lost with hundreds of thousands more displaced in and out of the country.
