Nigerian content creator MC Mbakara recently visited Cameroon to share insights on content monetization. However, instead of being celebrated for his expertise, he found himself at the center of an online controversy over an alleged act of cultural disrespect.

A video surfaced showing MC Mbakara eating fufu corn and khati-khati inside a toilet, creating an uproar among Cameroonians. Many viewed it as an insult to one of the country’s most cherished dishes, particularly in the North West Region.

Cameroonian blogger Fuchor was among those who strongly condemned the video, arguing that it painted a negative image of a beloved traditional meal.

“You even went so far as to sit on a toilet pot while eating the meal,” Fuchor stated. “If you have any iota of respect for the country you are in right now, you will promptly delete the video you have just uploaded on your page. If there is one thing you should know about Cameroonians, it is that we hold our culture and everything that represents it in high esteem.”

Another critic, Mbappe’s Corner, also reacted on Mbakara’s page, questioning whether a Cameroonian could do the same in Nigeria.

“Can this be done in Nigeria as a Cameroonian? Zero respect,” she remarked.

Was MC Mbakara Misunderstood?

As backlash mounted, MC Mbakara issued an apology but insisted that his actions had been misinterpreted.

“Cameroonians, I am sorry,” he said. “Your food is irresistible and not the other way around.”

He also called for unity among Africans, urging people to move beyond online disputes.

“We are not competing with each other; we are one,” he added.

Continued Support Despite Controversy

Despite the uproar, MC Mbakara continued to receive love from many Cameroonians. While in Douala, he was seen socializing with notable personalities. They include actress Syndy Emade, musicians Askia and Tilla, and prominent fashion designers.

His stay in Cameroon was marked by a strong culinary experience, as he showcased various traditional dishes gifted to him from different regions. However, the controversy surrounding his viral video ultimately overshadowed his primary mission—helping local content creators monetize their work.
