Panic has gripped the Ekounou Government Bilingual High School in Yaoundé, the political capital of Cameroon, following the mysterious disappearance of four students simultaneously.
The students, identified as Takam Manuel, Abessolo, Bidoum, and Abe Atangana, reportedly went missing on January 29, 2024. Sources indicate that the four students left their respective homes for school on that fateful day but never returned.
“These children from different families, all students at the Ekounou Bilingual High School, have been missing since Monday evening,” posted Achille Bakousse on Facebook.
A neighbour of one of the missing students, Samuel, alleged a possible organised plan by the students to run away from their homes.
“They were not kidnapped; they had organised this trip for a long time now. Children in the neighbourhood saw him go out on Monday morning, but there was a suitcase hidden behind the gate,” Samuel revealed.
According to Samuel, the student took a motorcycle and left his suitcase in front. “He apparently stole 100 thousand FCFA from his mother, money that was given to him to purchase drinks,” the neighbour added.
As of now, the whereabouts of the students remain unknown.
Meanwhile, social media users are calling for an investigation to shed light on the sudden disappearance of the four students.
Mbarga Martin emphasized the need for an inquiry, stating, “It is really necessary to carry out investigations to find these children. But given that the police have resigned from these functions, only their families must invoke the ancestors to have a positive answer.”
