Disgruntled GCE marker decries teacher belittlement after exam marking ordeals

Secondary school teachers charged with marking GCE papers have raised concerns regarding their treatment by the government.

After over a week of marking, it has been revealed that the monies allocated for the correction of the papers, which usually does not amount to more than 50,000FCFA has not yet been paid to them till now.

We have also been informed by some of the teachers that most of their colleagues who depended on the money due to them for transportation have been left stranded in Buea with no where to go.

The financial renumeration for these teachers have often always been a major issue, but this time it was a little more difficult as we understood that even the customary 50% of transportation refund was paid in more than a week later than expected.

These teachers have been left reeling their luck and treatment from the government, as they believe all the money owed them is supposedly taken from part of the students’ GCE registration monies.

Other sources however, claim otherwise. Some teachers say they were paid transportation money to return to their respective towns and wait for script correction dues. The said dues, the sources say, will be available in the weeks ahead.

The GCE Board and Ministry of Secondary Education however have remained mute over the concerns.
