Dismissed Soldier seeks pardon from President Biya.

Although summarily dismissed from the military over reasons he cannot understand, Terna Godwill says he desperately wants to serve and defend the Fatherland, the reason for which he enrolled in the defence forces.

28-year-old Terna Godwill who hails from the North West Region os Cameroon today lives in an uncompleted building at Bonamoussadi in Douala looking up to the heavens for President Paul Biya, Commander in Chief of the Defense Forces to readmit him into the corps.

He was dismissed from the Cameroon army in October 2018 while serving as a second-grade officer in Tibati in the country’s Far North.

“When I received my letter of dismissal, I was confused given that the reason stated was not really appropriate. I went to the military Headquarters in Yaounde to explain myself. After several weeks, I was asked to go and wait in Tibati while they regularize my situation. Since then, I have not been reinstated to work and my salary remains suspended”. The patriotic looking Cameroonian tells reporters.

Terna says life has never been the same again after his dismissal
“I did nothing wrong and do not deserve what happened to me,” Terna tells Mimi Mefo Info

In total reverence for Country, Terna Godwill says there’s no better time to serve Fatherland than when one a youth.

On the circumstances that led to his dismissal from the military, he recounts that: “Shortly after my recruitment on the 6th of March 2015, I underwent major surgery on the 28th of May 2015 in Douala. I was then posted to work in Tibati. While there, I had an accident that further provoked pains in the area of the surgery.”.

According to Terna Godwill, his health situation became worse prompting him to stay away from his duty post in Tibati for over a month.

“I was absent but I informed my boss at the time on phone. He accepted and asked me to resume work when I am fine”.

Upon regaining his normal health, Terna says he returned to work but discovered that his salary had been suspended. A situation that went on for nine months, that is till December 2016 when his salary was reinstated.

Terna and colleague

To his greatest surprise, his dismissal is still as a result of absences recorded in 2015 to which, according to him, he had been “sufficiently punished”.

He says he counts on the goodwill of the authorities for the issues to be addressed so he can go back to his dream duty, that of dying for Fatherland.

The country’s military corp has however come under scrutiny from local and international actors over rights abuses committed in the restive North West and South West Regions and the Far North Region of Cameroon.
