A tragic incident occurred on Monday, where a young 18-year-old boy named Peterbright Mbacha Ekoh tragically lost his life in a drowning incident that occured in the waters of Muyuka. The unfortunate incident took place when he decided to go swimming with a friend instead of assisting his mother on the farm.

Reports indicate that Peterbright tragically drowned during a leisurely swim, leading to a series of unsettling events related to his retrieval and burial. Surprisingly, it has come to light that certain individuals in the community insisted on performing rituals prior to initiating the search for the young man’s body. Additionally, it has been claimed that the family was required to make a payment in order for the search to begin.

On Tuesday, a day after the incident, the rituals were performed, resulting in the discovery of Peterbright’s lifeless body floating to the surface. His unfortunate passing took a tragic twist as he was laid to rest by the water’s edge, without a coffin, on the very same day.

The grieving family, hoping to bring their loved one home, encountered obstacles when they were reportedly required to provide extra funds before being granted access to the body. Due to financial constraints, the family had no option but to observe the burial without being directly involved.

This incident has sparked concerns regarding the cultural practices in Muyuka, where it appears that rituals and financial considerations are given more importance than the immediate rescue of a drowning victim. The discovery of a recurring drowning incident in February raises suspicions of a possible ritualistic sacrifice.

The local authorities have not provided any comments regarding the matter, leaving the community in a state of shock and grief over the tragic loss of Peterbright Mbacha Ekoh. The circumstances surrounding his death and the subsequent handling of the situation highlight the importance of closely examining cultural practices that could potentially endanger human lives in the pursuit of traditional rituals.
