The Ngie market in Njap Village, Nkambe Central subdivision of the Donga Mantung division in the restive North West region has been closed indefinitely, MMI has gathered.

The decision to shutdown the market is contained in a prefectoral order signed August 4, 2022.

The order was sanctioned by Ngidah Lawrence Che, Divisional Officer for Nkambe.

“With effect from the date of signature of this decision, Ngie market in village of Nkambe Central subdivision is hereby closed till further notice,” the prefectoral order reads.

“The said market in recent years has become a rallying ground for terrorists from where they plan and carry out heinous crimes against persons and property including amongst others; kidnappings, murder and cattle rustling,” the document reads further.

It is not known who the DO is referring to as terrorists.

MMI independent findings indicate that separatist fighters whom government qualify as terrorists are active around the area.

Ngie market, MMI learnt, is one of the most attended markets in Nkambe Central serving several villages.

Nkambe town market relies largely on the market for foodstuff.

Observers say the closure announced by the DO is certainly going to cause untold sufferings to local farmers and ‘buyam sellam’ women .
