Douala City Mayor reintegrates council staff delegates laid off in 2017

Ten staff delegates of the then Douala Urban Council dismissed in 2017 have been reintegrated in the City Council. The workers resumed work Monday 4th May, 2020.

The decision to reintegrate the staff delegates was taken by the City Mayor Roger Mbassa Ndine. Without announcing that his predecessor Dr. Fritz Ntone Ntone abusively dismissed the workers, he said it was the right thing to get these dismissed workers resume work.

To one of the reintegrated staff delegates, “we are happy to resume work after three years of hardship following our dismissal from the Council. Many things have gone bad in our lives and families because we did not have money. We strike several times, the administrative court and the Minister of Labour and Social Security ordered that we should be reinstated but Ntone Ntone refused claiming that he was above the law.”

The today satisfied delegates say they will always stand for the truth, respect of the law and workers.

They were dismissed for leading a strike, asking for their health allowances to be paid by the former government delegate.

Commentators continue to question if the City Council will pay all the indemnities of the workers that have gone for three years without salary.
