Douala: Death of pregnant woman in hospital attributed to medical negligence

A 31-year-old pregnant woman is reported to have died on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at the the St. Paul Private Hospital in Nylon, Douala.

The family members of the deceased Lauricia Maffo have blamed her demise entirely on the authorities of the health facility where she was admitted, accusing them of having neglected the complicated condition of the deceased.

Lauricia Maffo is said to have arrived at the hospital at about 2 am on Sunday hoping to give birth. After a complicated state, she fell into a coma at about 4 am.

In the absence of the main doctor of the St Paul Private Hospital, the nurses tried in vain to handle the situation but couldn’t, as Lauricia consequently died together with the unborn baby.

The police was quickly called to the hospital for first observations, few moments after her demise. The management of the hospital meanwhile has remained mute over the scandal. The body of the deceased has been handed over to her family for burial.
