Douala: Detained man admits he strangled his two siblings to death

A 26-year-old man who was arrested today in Douala on murder accusations admitted to gendarme officers he killed his two siblings who were found dead in their house.

Carolin, the suspect, was arrested by officers of the Mabanda Gendarmerie Brigade in Bonaberi, Douala, after his two siblings, aged six and nine, were found dead in bed.

He first told his father, who ordered that he be taken for questioning, that he knew nothing about their deaths but later confessed to the gendarmes he killed them.

“His father said he wasn’t behaving funny before now. So we don’t know what really pushed him to do this terrible act. Now that he is in custody he is going to tell us what really pushed him to kill his siblings,” his father’s friend told reporters in Douala.

His mournful father was disheartened. The 26-year-old had been living in the family with the two siblings at the time they died.

Their bodies have been kept at the mortuary as gendarmes continue investigating Carolin.

The popular rumour around the neighborhood is that the detained young man had been initiated into a dangerous cult, while studying in Dschang in the West Region. But these accusations are difficult to prove.

“Corolin was initiated into a cult at the University of Dschang and since has really been acting strange,” alleged a source who lives in the neighborhood.

“Even his mother who is now in Canada knew about it has tried severally to dissuade him from the cult to no avail. Corolin was in charge of his two siblings as instructed by his mother before travelling out. Since then he has been sexually assaulting them till this unfortunate incident happened today,” the source added.
