Douala: Family, colleagues mourn deceased Bonanjo Attorney General

Family and loved ones of the public prosecutor at the Bonanjo court of first instance in Douala, Littoral region are mourning his demise.

Jacques Elessa passed away yesterday around 8 p.m, MMI gathered.

Sources familiar with the deceased say his death came as a shocker, given that he had worked all day and did not exhibit any signs of discomfort or illness.

However, the official is said to have had in the past, moments of ill health and fragility.

“He left the office around 4 p.m and at 6 p.m, his driver called me to tell me that he was unwell. When we were transporting him to the hospital, he died” recounts one of the deceased’s close collaborators.

Upon confirmation of death, the corpse was deposited at the Douala military garrison hospital mortuary.

Jacques Elessa it should be recalled was named Attorney General in 2020, replacing Jean-Paul Kiam.

While he will be missed by loved ones, close collaborators, and colleagues, Jacques’ tenure as Attorney General was not all blissful.

It was tainted by conflicts with certain actors in the judicial system. Prominent among these was him having some lawyers arrested and detained in connection with a corruption case.

Ironically, even his colleague magistrates too were implicated in the said case.
