A man whose name MMI got as Sikbenton Shasha has been released by police in Douala after he was arrested for demanding that Laquintinie Hospital produces the placenta of a woman whose baby was reported missing at the hospital last week.

He was release Monday, April 10, after spending few days behind bars at Bonanjo Judicial Police in Douala.

He was arrested for parading the streets of Douala with a placard, asking Laquintinie Hospital authorities to produce the placenta of Bell Esther Aurelie, after the woman claimed her newborn was stolen at birth.

Aurelie, who gave birth at the hospital on March 31, neither saw her baby nor the placenta, and later concluded the baby had been stolen.

The news that went viral was picked up by many media organs, prompting an emergency intervention from the Minister of Public Health, Dr Manaouda Malachi.

Bell Esther Aurelie withdrew claims about the stolen baby after meeting with the Minister last week.

She agreed with hospital authorities that the so-called baby was a foetus that died at birth and was immediately discarded by midwives.
