The Rector of the University of Douala, Prof. Magloire Ondoa, survived a potentially fatal accident along the Douala-Yaoundé road on Sunday.
Images that surfaced online show his car heavily damaged, having crashed and tumbled on the road.
The University acknowledged the accident in a release yesterday, stating that the Rector is in stable condition.
“The care was immediate. The Rector is currently under observation at the Laquintinie Hospital in Douala and out of danger,” the release said.
The accident comes after a series of ghastly car accidents claimed several lives in July.
Most of the accidents were blamed on bad driving, poor road conditions, and the poor state of vehicles.
Although the cause of Sunday’s accident has not yet been ascertained, the Douala-Yaoundé road, where it occurred, is one of several major roads in Cameroon known for being narrow and ridden with potholes.
