Double standards: Gov’t receives relief items from China despite having declared ‘no humanitarian crisis in Cameroon’

Government has accepted a donation from China destined for crisis victims in the Anglophone regions despite having declared last month that wasn’t a humanitarian crisis in the country.

The donation which arrived Cameroon is currently being stocked at the air force base in Douala.

Aid materials including tents, sleeping materials and medical equipment worth 1 billion six hundred million francs cfa from the Peoples’ Republic of China have been inspected by minister Atanga Nji .

Atanga Nji inspects aid received

While inspecting the material assistance Wednesday January 8 2020 in Douala, the minister said “…the gifts are the most significant received from a foreign country”.

In expressing gratitude to China, Paul Atanga Nji condemned other countries and humanitarian bodies whom he said are instead fueling the tension in Cameroon rather than assisting Cameroon in seeking a solution.

The material assistance according to the minister will be distributed to internally displaced persons in the days ahead.

Paul Atanga Nji last month had declared that there was no humanitarian crisis in Cameroon “as claimed by some nongovernmental organizations mainly to entice their donors for more funds”.

The minister had equally accused some NGOs of distributing arms to separatist fighters in the North West and South West region of Cameroon.
