Dr. Christopher Fomunyoh says former colonial powers not suitable arbitrators for Anglophone Crisis

Dr. Christopher Fomunyoh of the National Democratic Institution (NDI) has raised an objection to those suggesting France and Britain could arbitrate the armed conflict in the North West and Southwest regions of Cameroon.

On Twitter, he said the United States of America “… must step up and lead, bring others along to end this senseless war.”

“Africans,” he stated, “want out of the neo-colonial construct, and referring us back to our former colonizers is not the right way to go.”

Dr. Christopher Fomunyoh’s call was a chain reaction to former US Secretary of State, Tibor Nagy, and Iffat Rahman.

To the African Bar Association/ International Criminal Court expert, the US must step into the armed conflict.

“I can’t speak for Europe but the US and Americans have a duty to Africa. The US can and should assist with holding a peace talk for Cameroon. How long are we going to let this conflict go on?,” She asked.

In response, Tibor said he wished it were that easy: “Holding a Peace Conference requires incredible prep and willing participants,” he explained.

Cameroon’s colonial powers – “France, UK and Germany should be hyper-involved in seeking peace and political resolution,” he added.

Alleged peace talks between the Cameroon government and separatists are reported to have continuously crumbled. Many have proposed the intervention of a third party, but government and separatists have failed to seek a consensus, leading to thousands of deaths and counting on both ends.
