DRC: 12 persons die in mine collapse

12 illegal miners have been confirmed dead after a mine collapsed on them in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Local radio stations in the DRC report that the incident occurred on Saturday at the Bas-uéle Province. 17 illegal miners entered a gold mine that had been sealed by mining services since January.

The mine collapsed when the miners were inside the pit, killing 10 miners, injuring 6 others. 2 other injured miners lost their lives while receiving medical attention in health facilities.

Local media reports in Congo also say that a similar incident occurred that same day in an artisanal quarry. A digger had entered into a pit to recover his motor pump, when suddenly rain started falling, causing a massive ground collapse into the hole, killing him in it as well.
