Truck driver on the run after crushing 8-year-old on Awae-Yaounde road

An 8-year-old child is the latest victim of a heavy duty truck. He lost his life around Elat, Awae-Yaounde.

The little child was crushed by a truck (LTTR 473AQ) on May 22, 2021 after the driver lost control and ran into him.

Persons who witnessed the incident say it happened when the truck driver tried unsuccessfully to overtake another vehicle.

The state of the road unfortunately, caused the truck to lose it’s control, consequently leading to the death of the 8-year-old child.

The first deputy at the Elat Gendarmerie, Sorel Mantong said the driver found himself face to face with a Mercedes car after a bad overtaking. It was when he tried escaping from the clash, he noted, that he lost control.

After the damage done by the truck, the three persons who occupied the vehicle including the driver fled the scene, abandoning the truck.

It first seemed the driver was escaping for fear of mob justice, but he has since not been seen.
