A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, along the Trans-African Highway linking Cameroon to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The incident, which took place in Batchuoh, claimed the life of Penn Clovis, the driver of the ill-fated vehicle.
The accident was believed to have occurred due to excessive speed in unfavourable weather conditions. Clovis was on a journey from Ekok to Bamenda when he skillfully manoeuvred to avoid an obstacle on the road. This manoeuvre resulted in the car tumbling, causing Clovis to tragically lose his life as his head was ejected from the vehicle. The car then careened out of control and ended up in the bushes, where Clovis’s body was eventually found. Thankfully, the rest of the individuals in the vehicle emerged from the incident without any injuries.
The remains of Clovis have been taken to the Bamenda hospital mortuary, where they will be kept until burial arrangements are made. This unfortunate incident has brought attention to the hazards of the Bamenda-Ekok road, which has been widely referred to as a treacherous route for drivers in recent times.
“About two weeks ago, my husband passed away along that same stretch on his way back from Ekok,” expressed one of the mourners with deep sorrow.
During her journey to Mamfe, a woman who purchases goods from Nigeria and sells them in Cameroon encountered an accident scene.
Earlier today, individuals were observed in Batchuo assisting in the recovery of a vehicle that had swerved off the road and into the surrounding vegetation. “Fortunately, there have been no fatalities in this accident,” stated one of the drivers.
Penn Clovis’s sudden departure has left his loved ones devastated. His wife, who is seven months pregnant, along with his children and other family members, are grieving the loss.
