The man who goes by the name Tapanjo has now been arrested by elements of the forces of law and order on grounds of taking away the life of his 11-year-old son some weeks back.
The boy who went by the name Wilson was reportedly beaten to death by his father at their family residence in Dschang for reportedly stealing and eating a ripe banana.
The father of the child returned from work on that fateful evening and realized that Wilson had eaten the fruit he kept as a bait for rats.
The man got overtaken by fury is reported to have pounced on the child, eventually strangling life out of the boy.
After realising what he had just done, he fled from his house and took refuge in Mutengene, South West Region. That was where he got arrested by elements of the Gendarmerie Brigade from Dschang.
Speaking about what transpired between the father and son, his wife expressed shock and dismay at the barbarism that her husband had portrayed by killing their son for a mere banana.
“My husband returned home at 1am. He went to where he had dropped his rat traps. When he got there, he saw banana peelings. He asked me who who had taken the banana and I told him I had no idea”.
“He told me he was going to wake all the children up so that they would tell him who did it. He woke them up and they said they didn’t know who did it. He threatened he was going to beat them terribly if they didn’t tell him who did it” she narrated.
Her husband, she went on, “… went inside and brought a machete after having locked all the doors. He undressed the children and began beating them with some ropes which are usually attached his motorbike. When I screamed, he equally had me beaten with the machete he was wielding and asked me to go to bed”.
After being questioned about his actions, Mr. Tapanjo said he was simply trying to correct his children whom he says are stubborn.
