East Region: Two prisoners ‘arrested’ for killing student during robbery

Two prisoners have been arrested for killing a student and attempting to make away with his bike in Lomie, a locality in the East Region of Cameroon.

Sources have it that the two prisoners had gone out to do their manual labour when they tried to snatch the student’s motorcycle, before taking away his life.

The corpse of the Lycée technique de Lomie student whose name MMI got as Chanas Bidja was found in a state of decomposition three days after the tragic incident.

“His body was found in an advanced state of putrefaction by the roadside behind a sawmill. He had been missing for three days (last Thursday),” MMI learned from a relative of the victim.

A source at the gendarmerie brigade indicated that the two arrested prisoners confessed after interrogation.

“They snatched his motorcycle in order to escape and hit the military vehicles which were on the side of Messok where the funeral of a traditional chief and a former man in uniform was taking place,” he said.

In the East, the phenomenon of prisoners walking around with the prison managers at late hours for manual labour has so far raised a lot of concern about the wellbeing of the local population.

According to the population, this phenomenon is a serious cause of insecurity in the Eastern region.
