As Edea prepares for Christmas tomorrow, the Edea 1 Municipality is battling with water cuts after the national water supplier, CAMWATER, cut water supply from the municipality for a second consecutive day.
According to Mayor Bernard Missinga of Edea 1, confronting the heirarchy of CAMWATER could restore water supply to the municipality.
“I am going to seize the regional hierarchy of Camwater to see clearly into this situation which leaves me surprised,” reassured Edea 1 Mayor, Bernard Missinga.
CAMWATER taps have not been running in the Municipality since Tuesday, December 22, raising frustrations among the population that eagerly needs water especially for the end-of-year festivities.
CAMWATER says the Municipality owes the company millions of Francs CFA after failing to pay bills for the past one year.
According to reports, the Edea I population had been drinking freely from pipe borne water taps installed by the Municipal Council but CAMWATER attached meters to the pipes and began charging the population fees.
As the population decries the water scarcity, Mayor Bernard Missinga says he is shocked by CAMWATER’s “repressive approach”.
Bernard Missinga also admits that it is difficult for the Municipality to cover up payments levied by the water supplier, cautioning that CAMWATER should remedy the water situation before 2021.
