Edea: Seven villages trapped in floods as more overflow predicted

By Tata Mbunwe

A record of seven villages in Edea I are reportedly trapped in floods after heavy rains caused the overflow of River Nyong into neighborhoods.

Water submerged homes and occupied roads, destroying farms and properties of villagers mainly in the Yassoukou area of Edea.

The villages affected include Ongue, Ongande, Yawanda, Ndokohi, Dehane, Abbeh, and Ndogtima.

Thousands of villagers may suffer famine in the coming days if the waters make it impossible for them to reach nearby towns to buy food, according to reports.
There are fears that if the downpour continues, in later days, the situation would be worsened.

River Nyong broke its bounds and flew unrestrained following heavy rainfalls throughout most of last week.

Although the rainy season in Sub-Saharan Africa ends by late October, this year has witnessed very heavy rainfall during the first week of November.

The deviation in weather conditions has been largely blamed on climate change which has caused enormous displacement of some natural occurrences.
