EFCC Arrests Bobrisky for Alleged Naira Abuse

The Nigerian Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested controversial social media personality and crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky. Bobrisky was taken into custody on Wednesday night in Lagos and is currently being held at the Lagos Command of the EFCC.

The EFCC alleges that Bobrisky violated Nigerian law by abusing, spraying, and potentially mutilating naira notes. Dele Oyewale, spokesperson for the EFCC, confirmed the arrest in a phone interview with our Nigerian correspondent.

“Bobrisky is with us,” Oyewale stated. “He was arrested last night in Lagos, and he is at our Lagos command. We arrested him for alleged abuse of naira notes, spraying of naira notes, and currency mutilation, among others.”

Oyewale emphasised the importance the EFCC places on upholding the integrity of the Nigerian currency. “We are very serious about restoring the dignity of the naira,” he declared. “Though our investigation is still ongoing, he will definitely be charged to court soon.”

Bobrisky, who has garnered significant attention online, has been involved in several controversies in recent weeks. One of the most recent ones was his being named the ‘Best Dressed Female’ during a movie premiere. This latest development raised fundamental questions about the future legal proceedings he may face, considering that LGBTQ+ is illegal in Nigeria
