FIFA appoints Cameroonian referee Noupoue Elvis to officiate at Paris Olympic Games

The world football governing body, FIFA, has appointed Cameroonian referee Noupoue Elvis as one of the match officials for the football tournaments of the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Noupoue Elvis will serve as an Assistant Referee and is the only Cameroonian on the list of 89 newly appointed match officials.

The match officials selected for the Olympic football tournament included 21 referees, 42 assistant referees, 20 video match officials, and six support referees from 45 countries.

“The match officials’ preparation will be regularly and closely monitored before and during the Olympic Games by a team of FIFA technical trainers, including referees and video assistant referee (VAR) instructors, as well as match analysts, fitness coaches, physiotherapists, and sports scientists, all of whom will provide the officials with the best possible guidance and support,” FIFA said.

The Paris Olympic football tournament is scheduled to commence on July 25, 2024, for women’s football and July 24 for men’s football.

Noupoue Elvis brings a wealth of experience to his role as a referee, having officiated numerous matches in Cameroon’s top league, the Elite One Championship.

He however faced a setback in June 2023 when he was provisionally suspended for serious breaches during a Cameroon Cup match.

He successfully regained his position and was recently enlisted as an official for the Africa Nations Cup in Ivory Coast.
