Elecam Fuses Polling Stations

Cameroon’s elections management body, Elections Cameroon (ELECAM), has delocalised polling stations to form polling centres.

The Director General of Elections Dr. Erik Essouse, made the declaration in a two-page document signed Friday September 21, 2018 in Yaoundé.

According to Elecam, the move is a response to the requirements of ensuring the security of voters and of various commission members as well as polling materials, particularly in the Northwest and Southwest regions, considering the prevailing situation.

Nonetheless, Elecam goes ahead to assure the population that each polling centre will still contain registered voters whose polling stations were fused. By implication, some polling stations in conflict hot zones will be moved to safer locations.

The move falls in line with an earlier outing of Paul Atanga Nji, Minister of Territorial Administration (MINAT) who had sworn that come October 7, elections will hold in all 360 subdivisions in Cameroon.
