Electricity company workers in peril after enduring months of unpaid salaries

Workers of Cible Energy, a company that contracts and supplies workers to electricity company ENEO, are lamenting over the non-payment of several months of salaries.

Speaking to MMI, one of the workers said the company has not paid them for the past three months, although they work seven days a week, and sometimes at odd hours.

“They owe three months now. They can keep you for four months then come pay a month and stay quiet,” the worker said, adding that they take risks during work and are sometimes pushed down from electricity poles.

He regretted that workers’ salaries are “not even much, but our brothers are there because the situation of the country, but they still will not give them the chicken change.”

MMI has not been able to reach Cible Energy or ENEO for a comment.

The workers are complaining at a time when cost of living is at an all time high level in the country, marked by a general price increase.

The situation forced the government, earlier this month, to raise the minimum wage for private sector workers from 36 to 41,000 francs CFA.

But it is likely many employees will not implement the proposal, if the government does not take measures to implement it.
