A 96-year-old woman in Bafoussam, West Region of Cameroon, can now comfortably live like a human being after members of Emelda Foundation reached out to her and provided her life-changing assistance.

The lady who can barely take care of herself was before now abandoned after losing her nine children to the cold hands of death.

Her living conditions were deplorable and not better than that of an animal, Djeutsa Hermaine Aliance, Founder of the Emelda Foundation told MMI after visiting the lady.

MMI gathered that she had not taken a bath for three years — because of lack of strength.

“She was deserted and accused of having killed her nine children through witchcraft,” Hermaine told MMI.

The philantropists told MMI that the 96-year-old “was living in a dusty house, sleeping on a bed made out of bambos without a mattress, having little or nothing to eat, and nobody to give her assistance.”

She was discovered on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, by an aid organization.

Emelda Aid Foundation, a not for profit non governmental organizations came to her rescue with some donations.

Apart from foodstuff, she was offered a comfortable bed and had her human body cleaned and made to look ‘born again’ of the flesh.

“I was on a visit in Bafoussam and met this 96-year-old woman. She had nine children who had all died. She was left in a local family house all alone. She was sleeping on bamboo bed with no mattress,” CEO of Emelda Aid Foundation told MMI.

“I bought a bed with a mattress, got foodstuff, and pleaded with someone around to be taking care of her,” Hermaine added.

Most communities in Camerooon have developed the habit of accusing and victimizing old women of witchcraft, especially when they lose children to death in their lifetime.
