In the past three days, at least 5 Internally Displaced Persons from the Anglophone regions have been freed from captivity in Eseka, Center Region of Cameroon.
These victims, amongst which are three females and 2 males were abducted by some unidentified individuals in the Sombo Village according to Gendarmerie sources.
The source adds that the hostages are IDPs from Cameroon’s North West Region, resident in Eseka since the escalation of the Anglophone crisis in 2017.
Before the operation which freed these hostages, the kidnappers had demanded a collective sum of 500,000 FCFA as ransom.
An alarm was raised, and an operation was initiated by the Gendarmerie on February 25, 2022, which led to their release.
The kidnappers nevertheless, were able to escape from the dragnet of the forces of law and order.
An investigation has been opened meanwhile, to track these kidnappers and bring them to justice.
