Etam Village Devastated by Strong Winds, Residents Left Homeless

A powerful windstorm ripped through Etam village, Tombel Sub Division, South West Region of Cameroon. The incident started at about 10 pm on the night of March 27, 2024, causing widespread damage and leaving many residents homeless. The extent of the destruction is still being assessed, but initial reports indicate that numerous homes have been severely damaged or destroyed.

Details about the strength of the winds are not yet available, but their impact is evident from the images that MMI has been privy to. Local authorities have yet to comment on it so, it is difficult to determine the number of displaced residents and the severity of the damage.

The immediate priority is to provide emergency shelter and support to those affected. With many homes destroyed, displaced residents will require temporary housing, food, and other essential supplies.

In the wake of the disaster, the Etam community is demonstrating great solidarity and resilience. Residents are reported to be assisting one another with clearing debris and offering temporary shelter to those who have lost their homes.

As the situation unfolds, it is likely that Etam village will require external assistance. Local aid organisations and government agencies are expected to play a crucial role in providing relief and helping the community rebuild.

This is a developing story. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
