The Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT President, Samuel Eto’o Fils has set the record straight with Sports Minister Narcisse Mouele Kombi concerning the rights to extend or not the Indomitable Lions Head Coach’s contract.
A correspondence addressed to Minister Mouele Kombi by the FECAFOOT boss pointed out that the ministry in no way had any right whatsoever on whether the coach stays or leaves.
His outing follows another made by the sports Minister on CRTV whereby he hinted that the Ministry was on course to maintaining Antonio Conceiçao as Indomitable Lions Head coach.
Samuel Eto’o Fils pointed out to the Minister that the law gives FECAFOOT full rights over the hiring and firing of coaches for the national team selection.
In the correspondence addressed to the Minister, FECAFOOT President informed him that the fate of the coach will be decided by the federation and be communicated to the ministry subsequently.
Eto’o’s letter also comes barely 48 hours after he had been given an ultimatum of 72 hours to decide the future of the head coach.
Following Cameroon’s elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations held at home, many have called for the coach to be fired and replaced with a local face.
Others however think it may be a gamble, given Cameroon is preparing an important World Cup Qualifier playoff in less than a month from now.
The sports Minister has also argued that introducing a new face might stagnate the growth of the team which had found cohesion in recent games.
