Eto’o suggests ‘retaliatory measures’ as French clubs prevent African players from representing countries

The former captain of Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions has reacted to measures being taken by French clubs preventing African players from representing their countries during the ongoing European leagues break.

This statement came after a controversial decision by the French Football Federation, in which clubs ordered that players leaving for international duties out of Europe to Africa, will have to be given preferential treatment.

It required that the players be taken to and from France in Private planes, shall not be involved in other group activities except football games, till the international break is over.

The French clubs have added that Federations which do not agree to follow these conditions will not be given access to their players.

Samuel Eto’o meanwhile, has launched a scathing attack on this decision by French clubs and said that he would have done more to equally prevent these players playing for their European clubs if opportuned.

“… I think the problem is no longer in Africa but more in Europe for wanting to deprive national teams of their players…” He said.

“… If I were a president of a federation,” Eto’o added, “… I would take measures that will prevent these players from equally playing in their clubs”.

“However, since I’m not, simply still just a football lover, I’ll just watch…” He concluded.
