The European Union ambassador to Cameroon has reacted to allegations that, the body is funding the government of Cameroon in her military campaigns in the Anglophone regions.

The European Union had in late December 2022, announced a two billion assistance in ‘donations’ for the fight against hunger and food insecurity in the restive North West and South West Regions of Cameroon.

A Separatist activist abroad, Mark Bareta took to twitter, alleging that the money was aimed at helping the government of Cameroon, purchase weapons to continue the military onslaught in English-speaking regions of Cameroon.

“European Union has offered Cameroon government 5billion to fight famine in the so-called Anglophone regions,” said Mark Bareta in tweet.

Adding that: “They are very much aware that this money will be embezzled or used by Biya to sponsor war in Ambazonia.”

In reaction, the EU ambassador to Cameroon, Philip Van Damme dismissed the allegations describing it as “complete nonsense.”

He noted that EU is neutral in her humanitarian activities.

“To ensure neutrality, our humanitarian aid are never delivered through government channels,” the EU official added.

According to the organisation’s estimates, nearly 600,000 people are in need of emergency food aid in these regions due to the nearly six years armed separatist conflict.

Conflict which started in 2016 has claimed thousands of lives, displaced over one million people, according to the UN.
