Extra judicial killings in Babanki: inhabitants accuse the military

The bodies of six farmers have been buried in different locations in Babanki village Cameroon’s North West region.

A villager writing to Mimi Mefo Info said “The farmers were picked up by military men from a farm called Kuh’shuis and some from a local food market with the assistance of some civilians”.
Our informant explains that the six men where therefore transported to a nearby location and shot dead at about 1:00am Friday, June 14 2019.

Four other persons are equally suspected to have been killed by the military given that their whereabouts is not known after the brutal killing of others.

Inhabitants of Babanki attest that there was practically “no fighting given that the farmers had no weapons and thus could not have resisted the military.”

On the question of why the men were killed, villagers say the killing is on accusation of collaborating with separatist fighters. A claim the inhabitants have refuted saying that those killed are mere farmers that spend days in the bush farming given that the farm is situated kilometers away from the village settlement.

Inhabitants of Babanki have been expressing pains and agony following the incident yesterday with accusing fingers pointing at the military.

The killings happened same day the governor of the North West signed a decision lifting an eight-month-old curfew in the entire region.
