“Just Two candidates Missed BEPC Exams” – Nalova Lyonga, Minister of Secondary Education

There is a war of figures between the Minister of Secondary Education and the Social Democratic Front over the number of candidates who failed to write the Brevet d’Etude du Premier Cycle- BEPC examination on the 5th of June due to confusion over the day for the celebration of the feast of Ramadan.

In a release signed by Pauline Nalova Lyonga on the 13th of June 2019, the Minister of Secondary Education mentioned that just two candidates failed to write the exam in Cameroon due to the confusion on the observation of public holiday on June 5th.

Going by this,Nalova Lyonga accuses the candidate for negligence and thus no catch up examination for them as demanded by most Cameroonians.
At the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Social Democratic Front SDF at the weekend, the party headed by Chairman Ni John Fru Ndi established that close to two thousand candidates of BEPC examination failed to write the exam that fateful June 5th due to confusion over a public holiday to celebrate Ramadan.

The SDF therefore called on the government to organize a special exam for these candidates given that they are just victims of a national confusion.
On the controversy over the number of candidates that failed to write the exams, the principal of government bilingual high school Mwanigole alone in the Moungo division mentioned that 15 candidates were absent.

This is already a clear indication that the number of absences given by the Minister of Secondary Education is false.

At the moment, Cameroonians continue to call for a special catch up exams for this candidates that are victims of controversial releases signed by some muslim dignitaries prior to the celebration of the feast of Ramadan.
