Families rendered homeless in Bali Nyonga after army raid

Some families in Boh-Munyaka in Bali Nyonga, North West Region are homeless after soldiers raided the area, setting their belongings on fire.

“They started from a neighboring compound where they burned down everything to ashes, then came over to our own,” one tells MMI.

The soldiers, he adds, looted the homes, taking with them as much as they could carry.

“They left with undisclosed sums of money and the remaining houses suffered huge material and structural damage,” the victim noted, adding the reason for the raid remains unknown.

Tuesdays raid in Bali was one of many countless similar raids by soldiers in the Anglophone regions of the country.

Shortly after the Anglophone crisis turned into an armed conflict, soldiers started raiding localities and setting them ablaze, a move they said was meant to kick out separatist fighters.

Five years later, civilians continue to incur the greatest damages.
