Families urged to identify Mbalangi accident victims in Kumba hospital

Families have remained inconsolable after losing some of theirs in a road accident at Mbalangi, along the Buea-Kumba highway in the South West region last night.

The accident occurred after an 18-seater bus en route to Kumba from Buea collided with a private car.

“The car was heading to Kumba from Buea when a private car left its side of the road and ran into it,” narrated one of the first responders at the accident scene.

Six persons died on the spot. Among them was the driver of the 18-seater bus popularly known as Okro.

Doctors without Borders, she says, came to the rescue, rushing some victims to the Kumba District Hospital.

One of the first responders told MMI they were finding difficulties identifying everyone at the accident scene, noting that it was essential for families of those involved to find them at the Kumba General Hospital.

It remains uncertain the number of persons injured, as well as their current conditions.

But MMI understands that Asong Sylvester, a retired staff of La Société de Presse et d’Éditions du Cameroun (SOPECAM) was involved in the accident. He was rushed to the Kumba District Hospital and was later evacuated to the Mutengene Baptist Hospital on Saturday night.

He died Sunday, hours after undergoing surgery. He could not bear the pains from the injuries on his face and feet.
