A family is mourning and in great distress following the death of a young man and his brother’s kidnapping in Bamenda on Sunday night, which are being attributed to Ambazonia separatist fighters.

The tragic incident occurred when Clinton, a 30-year-old individual, was fatally shot while returning home with his elder brother, Eric, after a day at their wine shop in the City Chemist area. As per the account of Clinton’s sister, the brothers decided to have some drinks with their friends at a pub in Mile 4 Nkwen before making their way back home. After dropping off two friends, they were unexpectedly confronted by armed individuals.

“My brother was shot through the windscreen,” Clinton’s sister recalled. “Eric, who was driving, was taken away. The other friend managed to drive the wounded Clinton to the hospital, but he died on the way.”

The family had just arrived back in Bamenda from their village in the Lebialem division to attend their father’s funeral. According to news reports, it has been mentioned that Clinton had intentions to travel to the US and had recently initiated the visa process.

Eric’s location is still unknown, leaving his whereabouts a mystery.

“There has been no communication from him,” stated Clinton’s sister.

“I drank at his place yesterday evening. We had a good laugh, not knowing it was my last conversation with him, Rest In Peace Clinton” said one of his friends.

The body of Clinton is currently being held at the mortuary of Bamenda Regional Hospital. The incident sheds light on the persistent violence in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon, where separatists are engaged in a struggle for independence, and some individuals are exploiting the situation to settle personal grievances.
