Fatal Accident Claims Life of Military Hospital Worker in Buea

At least one person has died following a fatal accident near the Gendarmerie Brigade in Great Soppo, Buea. A private vehicle travelling at breakneck speed knocked down a commuter this Wednesday, 29th January, 2025, before dashing into a valley.

The victim in her late 40s whose name MMI got as Sataku Emilia, had just rounded up her night duty at the Buea Military hospital and was on her way home. As she stopped by the roadside to board a taxi, the speeding vehicle veered off course, crushing her instantly before plunging into a roadside gutter.

“The driver was on top speed from Bongo square going down when he brushed off anything it found on the roadside, including that woman, whom he emptied into that valley,” Thomas Njaikia, narrated.

Health officials pronounced Emilia dead at the scene. They temporarily laid her remains in the esplanade of the gendarmerie brigade in Great Soppo, before taking them to the Buea Regional Hospital Mortuary. Meanwhile, authorities took the driver into custody as they continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.

Such fatal accidents are common scenes on Cameroonian roads. They are blamed largely on the poor nature of the roads and dangerous driving.
